Expansion and Strengthening of OAA Argentina
News from Argentina Accreditation Organisation (OAA)

In 2013, the OAA has extended its scope of recognition in the Inter-American Accreditation Cooperation (IAAC) and ILAC. Since last August, it is signatory to the IAAC MLA for the scope of Inspection Bodies and subsequently obtained the corresponding ILAC MRA recognition.

OAA participated actively in the translation of ISO 15189: 2012. Translation is already completed and the corresponding administrative steps for its release have been started.

Moreover, the OAA has launched the accreditation program of Reference Materials Producers and has a technical committee made by some producers of different types of reference materials (dairy products, soil, strains, etc).

The OAA is working on preparations for the next accreditation day, making focus on the theme chosen by ILAC and IAF "the role accreditation plays in providing confidence in the provision of energy." Regarding this, it will be topic of interest to present nationally what was observed since the nationalization of the oil company, YPF (Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales). Under the Law No. 26.741 was declared of National Public Interest achieving self-sufficiency in Hydrocarbons. This has increased exploration activity in the country and has also grown interest in extending the scope of accreditation of some of its accredited laboratories, extending both new sites and the number of accredited tests.

On the other hand, continuing with issues linked to energy: it is important to note that three Argentinian laboratories are participating in an intercomparison on energy efficiency organized by PTB- IAAC within the framework of the Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy involving: SIM (Inter -American System of Metrology), COPANT (Pan-American Standards Commission), IAAC, PTB and OAS (Organization of American States).

Moreover, another important function of the OAA is to be the National Authority for Monitoring Compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) – Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) for non clinical studies in Pesticides, Biocides and Industrial Chemicals.  In May 2013, by the Resolution No. 33/2013 SENASA (National Service of Food Safety and Quality) it was established the deadline for implementation of GLP Principles for non clinical studies performed to determine the identity and magnitude of pesticide residues in field phase. SENASA has delegated the corresponding monitoring to the OAA. The need for training in the OECD GLP Principles is growing in the country, this prompted that during 2013, and the OAA increased the training program on this subject, which already includes the completion of an annual course. Therefore, three additional courses were run in universities and organizations of different locations in the country (Buenos Aires City, provinces of Santa Fe and Río Negro).
