AFRAC First Peer Evaluations


KENYA ACCREDITATION SERVICE (KENAS) PRE-PEER EVALUATION: 26 – 30 AUGUST 2013

The first pre-peer evaluation undertaken by African Accreditation Cooperation (AFRAC) was jointly undertaken with the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC). The AFRAC-ILAC joint pre-peer evaluation of the Kenya Accreditation Service (KENAS) took place from 26 – 30 August 2013. The scopes were Calibration, Inspection, Quality Management Systems (QMS), and Environmental Management Systems (EMS). This was an important milestone towards AFRAC providing evidence to ILAC that it can run a Regional Accreditation Cooperation, as well as exposing its trainee evaluators in order to qualify and register them. 

The Lead Evaluator was Mr Geoff Hallam (ILAC) and the team consisted of: Mrs Christinah Leballo from the South African National Accreditation System (SANAS), Mrs Maureen Mutasa from the Southern African Development Community Accreditation Service (SADCAS), Eng. Mahmoud Eltayeb from the Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC), Mrs Sonia Mahdoui Ep Melki from the Tunisia Accreditation Council (TUNAC) and Mr Neville Tayler (ILAC Calibration Expert-SANAS). 

The evaluation summary report and findings were presented to the KENAS Management Team on 30August 2013.

TUNISIA ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (TUNAC) PEER EVALUATION: 12 – 16 DECEMBER 2013
 

The second AFRAC peer evaluation was a joint evaluation between AFRAC and the Arab Accreditation Cooperation (ARAC) on the Tunisia Accreditation Council (TUNAC) and took place from 12 – 16 December 2013 for Certification, Inspection, Testing, and Calibration. 

The Team Leader and evaluator for the Management System Certification (QMS, EMS, and FSMS) was Mr Salih Yüksel from the Turkish Accreditation Agency (TURKAK). The team consisted of: Eng. Mahmoud Eltayeb (EGAC) as an evaluator for Inspection, Mr Marcel Gbaguidi of LQT Consulting-Senegal as a trainee evaluator for Testing, Mr Gokhan Birbil (TURKAK) as evaluator for Calibration, Mr Adel Rezk (EGAC) Egypt as a trainee peer evaluator for Calibration, and Mr Ahmad Jallad from the Palestinian Laboratories Accreditation Committee (PLAC) as a trainee evaluator for Testing.  

The evaluation summary report and findings were presented to the TUNAC Management team on the 16December 2013.

EGYPTIAN ACCREDITATION COUNCIL (EGAC) PEER EVALUATION: 1 – 6 FEBRUARY 2014  

The third AFRAC peer evaluation was a joint evaluation between AFRAC and ARAC on EGAC, and took place from 2 - 6 February 2014 in Cairo, Egypt for Food safety Management Systems (FSMS) and Testing. 

The Team Leader and evaluator for Medical Laboratories Testing was Mr Gorkhan Birbil from TURKAK. The team consisted of: Mr Barrak Moslem (ARAC) as an evaluator for FSMS, Mr Amani Diby Esaie Romuald from Global Management Consulting-Côte d’Ivoire as a trainee evaluator for Medical Laboratories, and Mrs Lana Marashdeh Jordan Institute for Standards and Metrology (JSMO) as a trainee evaluator for Medical Laboratories. 

The evaluation summary report and findings were presented to the EGAC Management team on 6 February 2014.

AFRAC’S PLANNED PRE & PEER EVALUATIONS FOR 2014 

In order to maximize the opportunity to expose AFRAC’s trainee evaluators to the AFRAC Mutual Recognition Arrangement (MRA) documentation and peer evaluation processes, the pre-peer evaluations of SADCAS, ENAO and MAURITAS shall be conducted in line with AFRAC M001-01 Policies and Procedures for an MRA among Accreditation Bodies, M002-01 AFRAC MRA and ILAC/IAF requirements. 

The following peer and pre-peer evaluations are planned for 2014:

Scope: Testing and Calibration
Type of Evaluation: Pre-peer evaluation
