Singapore Accreditation Council – Regulator Workshop and Customer Day
The Singapore Accreditation Council (SAC) celebrated World Accreditation Day (WAD) 2016 by organizing a Regulator Workshop and Customer Day on 9 June 2016. The two events were based upon the theme of: “Accreditation - A Global Tool to Support Public Policy”. Dr Llewellyn Richards, Chief Executive of International Accreditation New Zealand (IANZ), was invited as a keynote speaker for both events. Dr Richards shared his insights on the effective use of accreditation to support regulatory work and how the regulatory landscape and global trends affect the conformity assessment bodies (CABs).
The SAC Regulator Workshop was a great success, with over 50 participants representing 18 ministries and agencies attending. The workshop served as a key platform for the various regulatory bodies to share their experiences and clarify doubts on the use of accreditation in their regulatory regime. The key discussions included talks on the competency of assessors in niche areas and how accreditation reduces regulatory burden. The SAC Chairman, Mr Renny Yeo, concluded the workshop by further emphasizing the importance of continual collaboration between SAC and the regulators to co-create solutions to support the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).
Cake-cutting ceremony to celebrate SAC’s 30 years of accreditation
At the Customer Day, SAC celebrated its 30 years of accreditation and presented accreditation plaques to 40 newly accredited CABs. One segment of the event was a discussion forum that engaged the participants on various topics, including adoption of technologies for conformity assessment, strengthening the testing, inspection and certification (TIC) players to meet industry needs, and mandatory issuance of endorsed certificates and reports.
