IAF - Issue 3

The IAF General Assembly in Shanghai, in October 2010, was my first opportunity to speak to the members as the IAF Chair. I fear I messed up the agenda by taking over an hour making my presentation, but I did receive positive comments from some members. For those of you who weren't able to be there, here is my view on the past, present and a glimpse into the future of IAF.

World Accreditation Day 2011

June 9th 2011 marks World Accreditation Day. The theme of the day this year is 'Accreditation: Supporting the Work of Regulators'. Watch the new promotional film.

IAF-ILAC Joint Annual Meetings to be held in Bangkok

The National Standardization Council of Thailand (NSC) would like to extend a heartwarming invitation to all delegates and guests to Thailand, for the ILAC-IAF Joint Annual meetings 2011 during 2-11 November 2011.

18th PAC Plenary meeting to be held in the Philippines

The 18^thPlenary Meeting of the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC) will be held in the City of Manila, Philippines on 11-18 June 2011. The venue of the meetings will be the historic Manila Hotel. Hosting the meeting for the first time is the Philippine Accreditation Office (PAO), with its Officer-in-Charge Jaime Lasaro L. Olmos overseeing the preparations for the hosting event since October of last year. Read more >>

Although the Accreditation Directorate of Kosovo (DAK) is the newest accreditation body in the Balkan Region, it has made remarkable progress in the field of conformity assessment. Ibush Luzha, Director of DAK, looks ahead to the continued progress.

OAA: First accreditation body recognized by RTRS to assess certification bodies

During 2010, OAA, the Argentinian Accreditation Body actively participated in the Round Table on Responsible Soy Association which developed certification requirements and protocols of responsible soy, as well as for accreditation under the ISO / IEC Guide 65 for certification bodies working in this area.

IAAC MLA signatories and training

IAAC currently represents a total of 41 members from 23 countries in the Americas. 23 are full members, 7 are associate members and 11 are stakeholders.

The previous period has seen several developments, including plans to extend the IAAC MLA scope, new signatories within the Region, and a number of training courses to continue to develop competence levels.

Change of Venue – IAF Technical Committee

IAF and ILAC members were planning to meet in Tunis, Tunisia in March 2010, as guests of TUNAC, the host for the meetings. However the unfolding events in the country presented ILAC and IAF with a decision of whether to move the meetings or cancel them.

New edition of ISO/IEC 17021 published on 1 February 2011

The second edition of ISO/IEC 17021 Conformity assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems sets new requirements for the auditing of management systems and for auditor competence in order to increase the value of management system certification to public and private sector organizations worldwide.
