Transition Rate Confirmed at 93% from IAF Members

By the end of September 2018, data gathered from IAF Accreditation Body members and their accredited Certification Bodies gave a 93% transition rate to the 2015 versions of the quality and environmental management system standards ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

The International Accreditation Forum, the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation, and the World Bank signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding at a signing ceremony held on 30 October during the 2018 Joint IAF-ILAC Annual Meetings in Singapore.

Standards for the Sustainable Development Goals

On 26 September 2018, Emanuele Riva (IAF Vice-Chair) and Chikako Makino (IAF liaison to ISO/TC 207, ISO/TC 301 and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change) participated in 'Standards for the SDGs', an event held as a side session to the 41st ISO General Assembly and jointly organised by ISO and UNECE.

Merger of PAC and APLAC to form the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC)
 

In June 2018, the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation and Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation agreed to combine to form one new regional accreditation body association to be called the Asia Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (APAC).

IAF Internal Audit Process – a New Approach

Being aware that a conventional approach to internal audit activities may not be adequate to the IAF organizational structure, working procedures and voluntary nature of members’ participation, a flexible internal audit process, with a global organizational scope and a clear focus on “what is really needed” instead of “what would be nice to have”, was defined, documented and approved.

ENAC New Fields of Accreditation for Certification of DPO and Public Sector Websites and Applications

ENAC, the Spanish national accreditation body, has granted IVAC-Institute of Certification the first accreditation for data protection officer certification under the Spanish Data Protection Agency's scheme conforming with the requirements of the ISO/IEC 17024 standard applicable to certification of persons.

Strengthening the Philippine Quality Infrastructure through Cooperation within the NQI Network
 

The Department of Trade and Industry  is committed to strengthening the national quality infrastructure in the Philippines through collaboration with other government agencies as embodied in the Philippine Development Plan which states that “The government shall set up a National Quality Infrastructure to integrate and coordinate series of activities involving metrology, standardization, testing, and accreditation and certification”.

Overcoming the Challenges of Marketing Accreditation
 

Marketing a unique type of commodity like accreditation poses a challenge, especially for economies with fragmented national quality infrastructure. For a government accreditation body like the Philippine Accreditation Bureau of the Department of Trade and Industry, marketing accreditation becomes more difficult as it is not the usual public goods like education, health and defense with easily discernible benefits to all members of society.
