At the 17th User Advisory Committee (UAC) meeting held in Mexico City on 07 April 2019, UAC members agreed upon an alternate plan to engage users and industry. The UAC will now host a series of panels with IAF and UAC member representatives serving as panelists at upcoming IAF member and non-member conferences. This approach replaces the single “IAF Industry/User Day” approach as it will allow the UAC to engage with a larger number of users and industry representatives, with reduced cost.
UAC members will participate in a panel discussion along with IAF member-accredited certification bodies at the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) 2019 Quality Summit on 03 October 2019 in Novi, Michigan. Using a lively interactive format, panelists will discuss strategies to improve conformity assessment activities and to maximize benefits for regulators, the automotive industry, and users. Presentation submissions are in progress for the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) Business Performance Optimization Symposium on 12 - 14 November 2019 in Dallas, Texas and the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI) Conference on 25 - 28 February 2020 in Seattle, Washington. Future submissions are planned for upcoming conferences with other IAF member organizations such as the AIAG and the Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification (PEFC). Panel presentations at IAF member conferences are intended to serve as “listening” sessions, focusing upon how to improve the IAF’s conformity assessment activities.
Work is also underway to identify upcoming non-IAF member conferences, such as the Offshore Technology Conference for the oil and gas industry, to promote the benefits of accredited certification. To aid in promoting accredited certification, the UAC Chair recently recorded a webinar providing an update on changes occurring at the IAF and their impact upon users and industry. The recording also included an update on the IAF Database of Accredited Certifications (CertSearch).
The UAC will host a WebEx meeting on 09 October 2019, which is intended to enhance the engagement of UAC members at the 23 & 24 October 2019 IAF Technical Committee meeting. During the meeting, UAC members will discuss the following:
- IAF Task Force on Transitions Draft Mandatory Document
- IAF Task Force on Conformity Assessment Schemes Draft Mandatory Document
- Database Management Committee updates
- Technical Committee Discussion Papers
The UAC continues to engage users and industry representatives who are working collaboratively to improve and promote accredited certification.
