Accreditation Supporting New Sectors in Egypt and Opting for a Strategic Cooperation with Europe

EGAC succeeded in maintaining and extending its international recognition from ILAC/IAF, which will continue until 2021. The recognition status from IAF was extended to include FSMS, besides QMS and EMS. The recognition status from ILAC was maintained in Testing, Calibration, and Medical laboratories besides Inspection bodies.

EGAC also successfully passed an AFRAC evaluation in March 2019 that confirmed that EGAC’s revised Management System is in alignment with and complies with the requirements of ISO/IEC 17011:2017.

EGAC also started to accredit testing and calibration laboratories according to the new ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard.

In addition to international recognition by ILAC/IAF, EGAC is also recognized by the AFRAC and ARAC Regional Accreditation Groups.

In May, EGAC will sign the EA BLA for accreditation of Proficiency Testing Providers (PTP) according to the requirements of ISO/IEC 17043.

The Egyptian Accreditation Council (EGAC) organizes activities that spread the culture of quality and accreditation in Egypt, especially in the Egyptian industrial society, and raises awareness of the importance of obtaining accreditation for the benefit of the Conformity Assessment Bodies operating in Egypt.

EGAC participated as the sole Accreditation Body from Egypt in the Africa Food Manufacturing Exhibition. The Exhibition is considered to be one of the largest food processing and packaging exhibitions in Egypt and includes the latest developments in the industry, with the largest and most famous suppliers in the market and highlights the latest trends and innovations in the food industry. The exhibition featured country pavilions showcasing new and exciting technologies from around the world.

EGAC´s participation in the exhibition is also part of its activities to commemorate World Accreditation Day, which will be held this year with the theme “Accreditation: Adding Value to Supply Chains.”  World Accreditation Day will be celebrated by Accreditation Bodies worldwide.

The Africa Food Manufacturing Exhibition, hosted this year by the Egyptian Ministry of Commerce and Industry, presented the life cycle of the food and beverage manufacturing process. The exhibition focused on packaging technologies (such as packaging machines), processing technologies (including automation and robots), food ingredients (including raw materials and flavors), and logistics (such as storage and transportation).

The exhibition served as a trade gateway between African countries and the rest of the world through its interactive platform of cutting-edge technology. This business event offered a unique opportunity for manufacturers and shareholders to meet top buyers in the region under one roof.

EGAC, through its presence in the exhibition, raised awareness about the importance of obtaining accreditation in order to comply with international requirements and specifications for the quality of goods and services.  EGAC promoted accreditation as a tool to ensure that the results of inspection and testing are in accordance with international standards and highlighted the international recognition of an accreditation issued by EGAC.

International, regional, and continental accreditation organizations such as ILAC, IAF, ARAC, and AFRAC, are important actors in the promotion of local industries and foreign trade. Accreditation helps to protect local markets by preventing imports of products that are incompatible with the Egyptian and international technical legislation.

During the exhibition, EGAC representatives had the opportunity to explain to Conformity Assessment Bodies present the steps to obtain accreditation using the latest interactive materials and information.
